Counselling and psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapy can help to support you to come to terms with many difficulties in life. We offer a range of options at The Carrick Clinic to help you move forward in your life. Sessions are run by Christine Walker, Chartered Psychologist, who has over 30 years experience in NHS and local council settings. She specialises in the following techniques:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A well recognised form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the importance of challenging and breaking negative cycles of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and finding new ways to deal with a range of problems, including depression and anxiety.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A specialised psychotherapeutic approach which uses a set of standardised protocols that incorporate elements from different treatment approaches which have proven extremely effective for helping to target and process upsetting events and memories. EMDR was originally developed to treat trauma, but is now also used for a variety of psychological problems.
Solution Focussed Brief Therapy
This innovative approach was developed to access and harness an individual’s positive experiences and resources to facilitate changes in negative perceptions and behaviours which permit growth in self-confidence, goal setting and problem solving.
Complicated Grief Therapy (CGT)
This is a specialised evidenced based treatment for persistent, prolonged or complex bereavement. It follows a carefully structured treatment programme which has been researched and developed over many years, incorporating key elements from different therapeutic techniques. CGT has achieved international recognition as the current most successful treatment for this very distressing problem, which can otherwise leave an individual suffering and isolated.
